Purple Bird Art

Workshops

Below are the classes I will be teaching at Art and Soul, Portland, in October 2008.  Please see the Art and Soul website for additional class information and fees (www.artandsoulretreat.com) .

Beachcomber Bracelet - using bits of beach pebbles and shell fragments, as well as etched copper charms, colored and coated with resin to resemble faux copper enamel, students will construct an eclectic beaded bracelet that will bring back memories of the sea each time you wear it. (I will also be teaching this class in Virginia at Art and Soul in May 2008).

Bird on a Wire and Wired for Flight:  I will be teaching an evening and full day class in wire weaving baskets and forms.  This is a new class, not taught before, and I am really looking forward to it.  In Bird on a Wire, the students will take a full day to create a woven wire basket adorned with a bird, nest and eggs.  In Wired for Flight, students will take an evening to create a woven wire bird ready to take flight from their fingers upon completion.  This medium can be used in many ways from sculpture, to basketry and jewelry and beyond.  Wood, glass and beads can be incorporated in the finshed piece.

Jubiliation Gourd:  Gourd with pyrography (wood-burning) and inset fiber weaving.  In this class you will learn the basics of  cleaning and preparing gourds and a variety of techniques to decorate them, including pyrography, surface decoration with dye, inks and colored pencils and fiber weaving.

Please check back for additional workshops I will be teaching at Art and Soul Retreat and Sixth Street Gallery in Vancouver, Washington.
